What is the Toefl? The Test of English as a Foreign Language is the most important examination which has become the international standard for universities, corporations and governments to evaluate non-native speakers’ proficiency in English.

Who develops and administers the Toefl test? The institution responsible for this exam is called ETS (Educational Testing Service), a nonprofit educational organization in Princeton, New Jersey, USA.

What is the Toefl iBT? The TOEFL iBT is the internet-based test introduced in 2005. This examination has changed in format and scope since it now evaluates the speaking skills of the test takers. The questions of the TOEFL iBT often require multiple language skills at the same time.

What is the Toefl iBT like? The TOEFL iBT consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The entire test is about four hours long and all sections are taken on the same day.

What is its format? The new TOEFL is administered via computer from a secure Internet-based testing network. Instructions for answering the questions are given within each section.
