Fire Drill Documentation Posted Monthly drills, 1 per calendar month during school months. Should be one for August, Sept, Oct, so on and so forth.
Fire Drill Map Should be one in each room Don’t check every room Check a few
Fire Drill Procedures for disabled Ask for copy of procedures. Don’t have one? Violation..
Tornado drill documentation on State record form Ask to see the record Should be on State provided form.
Tornado refuge Information sheet Conspicuously posted Near main entrance Lobby area Hallway area
Fire Alarm Serviced? Must be within last 12 months Must be monitored off-site You must see proof Is there a power on light? Is there a trouble light? Trouble light, require service within 1 week. No power light, immediately call fire prevention!
Sprinkler system service? If they have one Within last 12 months State certified contractor Not the alarm company
Boiler Certification If they have them Within last 18 months Will be an actual certificate
Kitchen hood extinguishing system Serviced within last 6 months You must see proof Remove old links that have been taken out of the system & dispose of them.
Emergency lighting test record Have they been testing monthly Must be documented You must see the record Regular lighting may be on generator If so, are they testing generator regularly, should have generator test record?
Emergency lighting operation Spot check at least 10 of them Any of them not work? Do a lot of them not work? If so check them all and get a count.
Exit Signs Are they all working? Spot check backup battery on at least 10 of them. Do they all work? Are they obstructed?
Exit Doors Do they all open easily? Are they blocked? Any hardware locks that don’t belong?
Fire Doors Magnetic doors close easily and properly? Are they blocked open?
Corridor width 6 foot minimum Desks, chairs, shelves in the way? No coats or clothing in halls, even on hangars.
Fire Extinguishers In place? Serviced?
Flammable contents and decorations Straw, Hay? Cardboard storage? Decorations
Corridor displays 20% of the corridor is the rule Judgment call, is there too much?
Unvented heating No unvented heating equipment Remove immediately
LPG Cylinders For classroom use I.E. Shop areas etc. No bigger than 20 lb.
Other normal inspection items That you do on any business Electrical issues Furnace rooms Combustible storage Blocked breaker box Water cooler fountains should be on GFI circuit. etc
