6 pounds 8 ounces 21 inches long.
On January 23 2009, A baby boy was born. His name was Izaiah Thomas Michaud. He was born; he and his mother alone, separated from the rest of his family. Hours later he was joined by the rest of his family. His father, 2 sisters, and big brother. Kiara, Izabelle and Elijah. His Oldest sister placed her hands upon him and held him for hours.
With in hours of his birth, Izaiah grew very irritable; and unable to be settled down. His doctors and nurses were concerned but unable to find anything wrong with him. His mother’s doctor found a big infection within her and both she and he were put on medicine. Izaiah was put in ICU, for one week.
Izaiah with his big sister Izabelle. His name was spelled to match hers. They had a very close bond..
Izaiah with his big sister Kiara. Izaiah looked a lot like is big sister.
Izaiah being held by his big brother Elijah. He looked very much like his brother.
Two Brothers To the left is Elijah. To the right Is Izaiah. They were almost identical. They have a very close bond with each other. Elijah is very in tune with his little brother. Very protective of him, and his things. Born 3 years apart and bound by spirit; for eternity.
With in hours of his birth this was all that his eyes could open. The doctors were not able to find why and were not concerned even though this is a very unusual thing to happen. His mother was very worried about his eyes not being able to open.
On day 8 of his birth he was able to go home. Down to 5lbs 6 ounces he was nursing well and on his way home. Only crying when he was hungry. Still unable to open his eyes.
At ten days old, Izaiah lost his suck and was unable to nurse or drink from a bottle. He was placed Back in the hospital for further testing. After 48 different Tests, and a ultra sound of all his internal organs he was very Healthy. His doctors became frustrated. His mother was desperate to find what was wrong with him. When all options Became exhausted he was put on a tube feeder,(ng tube). His mother Made the correlation of his inability to suck, swallow, and his eyes not opening. She asked the doctor if they could check to see if there was Neurological damage some where. His doctor agreed, called Riley's children Hospital and he had a CT scan the next morning. That is when he was found to have a 6-7 cm brain tumor in his brain stem. We were taken to Riley's children hospital With in an hour for further testing.
Alone and scared our journey of our newborn son, went down a road many have not traveled. On February 12, 2009 an MRI reveled The tumor was huge, and in a spot that could not be removed. It was cancer. Devastated his mother turned to the only thing she new she could. Leaving her newborn with the ICU nurses she went to the chapel. She said : “I do not know If you are real or not, but I do know the doctors can not save my son. If you are real I need your help ; as I can not do this, I do not know what to do, and I do not want to lose my little boy.” She wrote a letter to God asking for her requests and stating how she felt. With in a few hours she was feeling different, looking at the situation through different eyes, and with out the feeling of anxiety. The next morning she woke to her husband, aunt and other 3 children. The decision to try to save him was made. He underwent brain surgery at just 2 weeks old. The biopsy did not reveal what type of cancer he had.
Izaiah stared chemotherapy at just 2 weeks old. He met a nurse At the time not knowing she was an angel sent from heaven. Many nurses Fell in love with Izaiah even the ones that were heart broken of his condition. Izaiah’s story spread like wildfire and many people were touched by his story. Thousands of People have prayed for this little baby and were nothing more then strangers .
This was his first nurse Elisa. She was with him through out His journey. This was after his first round of Chemotherapy.
Izaiah with his mother. She never left his side. Sleeping 2-4 hours a day, she went to meetings With his doctors every day. She made note of everything He did or did not do, making sure he was comfortable at All times. Her job was to make sure his life was full of love, Memories, and the best quality of life her and the doctors could provide. She never gave up hope and found that She was lead to believe in God. She started a prayer group with other mothers and they would go around and pray over the sick Children. She also found that she was able to support other children And parents that needed love and direction. She was separated from her husband and other children only seeing them for a few hours a week. Her devotion paid off and Izaiah started to get better.
Izaiah with his father. His father had to live 2 hours away, taking care of his brother and two sisters. His time with his son was short, but full of love. He often would drive 2 hours after putting the girls on the bus, spend 2 hours, then Turn around and drive another 2 hours home to get the Girls off the bus. He made many of these trips, to show His love and devotion, to his son, wife, and other children. He held the house together, so there was a life to come home To when this was all over what ever the out come would be. Izaiah brought his father back to God, and on fathers day 2009 He was baptized as an adult giving his life and family to God.
On February 14, 2009, The day we celebrate love (valentines day) Izaiah, Began to die. His heart rate was unstable , as well as his breathing . His heart slowly began to stop beating. He was laid on His hospital bed and his mother frantically removed all his tubes and wires, she did not want her Last memory of him like that. In the company of his parents Izaiah was told “Now your home is in heaven. It is ok to Leave us, we will always love you.” After flat lining for 20 seconds, he started breathing on his own and he was brought Back to life., with out the intervention of any doctors. His parents believe God intervened at that moment. His time was not yet over. The fight began and he began to touch the lives of all that met him or heard his story from all over the United States. He drew so many people and all that was around him could only feel love and peace. He brought unity to the world that was around him, as well as harmony, love and devotion.
At only 8 weeks old Izaiah began to open his eyes and he was getting his suck back. In this picture he was only a little over 5 pounds. The tumor shrank significantly, and Izaiah did not show a lot of toll from the chemo. He tolerated it very well.
“ A love for always; a bond, bound by eternity; a sprit connected by two worlds ” (author; V.Michaud)
On the left is his Neuro brain surgeon who was a mother, a friend, and a doctor to not only Izaiah but also his mother. She did all she could to save him. these are only a few of the many doctors, nurses that fell in love with him and will be Forever touched by him.
In May of 2009, Izaiah’s cancer came back with a vengeance. He began having seizures That were very hard to control. It was a huge effort from his parents and doctors to keep him comfortable. The doctors said they had not expected him to live as long as he has.
His mother began to watch and could no longer wish for life for her son. He was having seizures every 10 minutes and no medicines were able to stop them. He was already taking 18 different kinds of drugs. His eyes were closed again. It was out of love for him , that she would rather see him healed and in heaven than suffering here on earth. She spoke to God and begged him to fix this. “Out of my love for Him; and with your love for him, please heal him. Even if healing means taking him, I love Him to much to endure the pain of watching him suffer, please lord”
Izaiah Thomas Michaud. 8 pounds. June 5, 2009. 18 days shy of 5 months old.
Izabelle has epilepsy and her seizures were being triggered By anxieties. She then came to live at the hospital with me and Izaiah for two weeks. His eldest sister Kiara was in Florida. June 5, 2009
Izabelle was often found in his room putting holy water on him And praying for him. She became very bonded to him.
On June 7, 2009 1:39 am, Izaiah Thomas Michaud Crossed over the rainbow bridge. He was passed from his Mothers arms and into the arms of Jesus. The room was filled With angels, nurses, friends and Izabelle blessed him in his Passing. His father and brother were at home and came at 3 am.
His nurse Elisa from the beginning , was also there at his end. She held him as he Was given to Jesus. Izaiah was loved by so many. His story is amazing and to much to put everything on here. There will be a book about his journey, as well as a Foundation in his honor to help other families out there.
Izaiah had a very rare type of cancer never seen in a newborn before And almost always found in the kidney, of children 2-5 years. His condition is so rare. Izaiah is now being put in all the medical journals and has many doctors Interested in his story. There are only 2 known cases of infants being born With a brain tumor. The type of cancer he has also only been seen a handful Of times. Our hope is that his journey is able to help medical teams find out more So that some day if another child is born with what he had they may have a better chance to live here on earth. This journey was long and hard to go down, but I would not change a thing I am so thankful for all that I was given during this and all that I learned. “It is better to love and lose, than never to have been loved at all” I am so honored to Have been chosen to be the mother of this incredible child. His life was cut short but His life was with such a big purpose, many of us never get to live up to. I want to thank the thousands of people that prayed for my son and my family. All the Love and support people haven given to us. With all of you this could not have gone the way It did and it was an honor to have you as part of his journey. I also could never repay all the medical staff at Columbus Pediatrics, Columbus hospital and Riley’s children hospital, Dr. Ackerman, Dr.Shi, Dr. Vick, Stacy, Elisa, Sarah, Jen C, Jenny, Alisha, Karie, Courtney S Courtney M, Abby, Diana, and all his other nurses as well. (these names are just a few of the many Doctors and nurses that worked very hard attacking care of him)
Thank you all for being part of our journey. After Izaiah Was laid to rest I ask god why this all happened. He said to me “I need another Arch Angel. Izaiah is the closest to Jesus. I chose him For his heart and strength. I am proud of you. Children are the only ones Able to be Arch angels as there are pure and with out sin.” I was also told that is why I was able to see all the angels in the room The night Izaiah left me and went into heaven. I am ok with him living in heaven, however my heart does miss him very much. I am so honored that my child was chosen to become and Arch Angel and stand next to Jesus To help others that need help. Again I thank you all, with out your love and support I could not have done this. God Bless you all.
