The Southern Plateau South pf the Northern Plains is a vast table-land or a plateau that covers almost the whole of the South India. This table-lands called the SOUTHERN PLATEAU. A table-land or plateau is a highland with a flat top. The land of this area is uneven and rocky.

The Coastal Plains And The Islands The South of India is surrounded by mountains on the east and west. The mountains on the east is called EAST GHATS while on the west are the WESTERN GHATS.

The coastal plains start from the Rann of Kachchh in Gujarat and runs through Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal. Two islands groups- (i) Andaman and Nicobar islands, (ii) Lakshadweep, are also part of our country. Andaman and nicobar islands lie in the bay of Bengal where Lakshadweep a group of islands lie in the Arabian sea.
