Slide 8

We DO expect our students to: Study well Arrive at school on time Participate in class activities, complete all homework Follow school and classroom rules. Take care of school property Treat each other at Hawthorne with respect. Walk quietly in the hallway Keep hands and feet to one’s self at all times.

Slide 9

Teachers repeatedly model and teach these behaviors, such as: How to share How to stand in line without touching others How to say “please” and “thank you” What it looks like to be helpful How to comfort someone who is upset How to listen How to tell others how you feel instead of acting out your feelings by hitting, pushing, etc. How to compromise How to comfort yourself when you don’t get your way

Slide 10

We DO NOT allow our students to: Fight or use mean words at school. Say anything that is disrespectful If that happens, please call the school.

Slide 11

Contact the school If the child complains about Recess Bus behavior Doesn’t understand anything

Slide 12

Family Expectation and Supervision Priority given to reading, school work over television, video games, recreation Punctuality – children expected to be on time Children expected to do their best and accept responsibility for what they do. Concern for correct and effective use of language Parental knowledge and discussion of what is watched on TV and viewed on the internet Bed time – 8 to 10 hours of sleep Take TVs out of the bedroom

Slide 13

TV time …. Use the TV Guide and schedule the programs to be watched during the week. Limit TV and Video games to 1 hour per day Watch programs together and make it interactive. Remember, talking builds vocabulary which supports comprehension and problem solving skills. “What do you think will happen next?” “Do you think what that character did was right? “Why or why not?”
