The Great Wave A three-nation collaborative story Part 1 by Gaiwhe in South Africa Part 2 by Maddy in Canada Part 3 by Natalie, Delfii and Ceeli in Argentina
Part 1: The beautiful sea
The waves crashed across the sand and I knew it was the perfect day for a surf. I went home, got dressed and got out my surf board. I called my friend and she said that it was a great idea to go for a surf. We walked down to the beach, got on our boards and went out to sea.
We took it all in for about two to three seconds. We didn't want to miss the great waves. Surfers from everywhere came to ride the waves. It was really hard to find an open spot to surf so Carly and I went to the end of the beach. It was a thirty-minute walk but it was worth it. We immediately went to the water.
Part 2: Where is Carly?
"Yes yes here it comes are you ready?" I asked Carly. "Yeah dude!“ Carly screamed. “Okay lets do it!” I thought to myself. The wave was the best wave ever, well at least for me. Okay, I was ready to pop up. Here is the surface. I popped up. I was having so much fun I didn't realize that Carly had fallen off. I couldn't see her when the wave went away. I stopped, tried to look under the water but there were too many bubbles from the wave.
I couldn't find Carly. I got very nervous and started shouting for help. Nobody answered. Suddenly someone came towards me. I was very sacred. He had brown hair, light blue eyes and he was a Very muscular person. He said, " I'm the life saver. Has somebody asked for help?“ I didn't know what to answer, and he asked Again. “Were you here alone?“ I answered that I was with a friend and he went down the water and never came up and if he did I never saw it.
“Oh, that’s terrible,” he said. Can you remember when was the last time you saw your friend?” I told him that all that I could remember was that I was surfing and Carly disappeared while I was popping into a wave. The muscular lifeguard told me that he was going to look for her under the water and he recommended me to look all over the beach to make sure she wasn’t in the water. I did look for her and all I could find were her Old Navy flip-flops. The lifeguard searched the water but he could not find her.
Part 3: What happens now?
Things were getting quite scary. What should we do next? The first thing I decided to do, was stay calm. I remembered that my granny always told us that when we got into trouble, or if we were scared, we should stay calm. I tried to do so, but I could not. It was my best friend, the one who got lost and part of it was my fault. I should have kept an eye on her. I felt so guilty. What should I do?
It was 12 noon. The lifeguard took me to have some lunch. But I wasn’t hungry. All I could think about was Carly, my best friend. At the restaurant you could not imagine what I saw. CARLY! I started screaming , “Oh Carly, Carly, is it really you? I was terribly worried. Where were you?”. She explained to me that when she was about to pop into the waves together with me, she forgot that her mom had told her she had to put on some sun screen. When she couldn’t find me after that she came to look in the restaurant in case I was there. We were all so relieved. THE END
