I actually found the content to be very compelling. The pictures are bold and vivid, and help convey the message in a way that text and graphics cannot. Nice job!

I don't think this presentation should have won the second place. The message is great but the design could have been better. Way better¡¡ It is just what i think¡¡

Trials and tribulations tend to squeeze the artificiality out of us … leaving the essence of what we really are and clarifying what we really for. Neal Maxwell (1926-2004) YEAЯN

Slide 4

…the story of Russia’s orphans

Slide 5

…to raise awareness of the Russian orphanage plight “The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” Count Leo Tolstoy

Slide 7

Slide 9

600,000 children were under the care of the state in Russia in 2007

Slide 10

The death rate in Russian institutions is almost twice the rate of the general population (due to overcrowding, poor hygiene...)

Slide 11

95 percent of orphans in Russia still have a living parent

Slide 12

The struggling economy and bouts with alcoholism have created these “orphans with parents.”

Slide 13

70% of the 600,000 children under the care of the state are physically or mentally handicapped

Slide 14

About 15,000 children leave Russian orphanages each year (once they are 16 to 18 years old) There are an estimated 30,000 additional Russian children who run away from troubled homes each year and never make it to an orphanage ….

Slide 15

they leave unequipped and unprepared for life

Slide 16

Of these, 5,000 are unemployed, some 6,000 are homeless, around 3,000 resort to crime, 1,500 commit suicide, and roughly half the girls are forced into prostitution

Slide 19

There were over 700,000 orphans in Russia in 2008, an increase of 100,000 in one year

Slide 20

The numbers prove this degenerating trend

Slide 21

Yearn however, refuses to give up on the lives of these children. Having enjoyed the blessings this country has to offer, we believe we can make a difference

Slide 23

Our Ultimate Goal

Slide 24

Teach life and moral skills to orphans before they are emancipated to give them the necessary tools to be educated and equipped for life … and find a JOB

Slide 25

“What the whole world wants is a good job. That is one of the single biggest discoveries Gallup has ever made … … the single most dominant thought … is ‘I want a good job’”

Slide 26

It’s a cycle, and life and moral education can deter it Orphans leave orphanages educated and equipped and positioned to get a JOB With improved life and moral training, and a JOB, parents are less likely to fall into the cycle Life and moral education Orphans leave unequipped for life Orphans fall into crime, drugs, alcohol, prostitution ORPHAN CYCLE Unequipped for life, parents bear children Unable to provide, children are abandoned Children land in orphanages

Slide 27

In the meantime, we have learned that the orphans are in dire need of clothing, medicines, blankets, educational materials etc. and it is our desire to make sure that these children have these basic necessities

Slide 29

A little awareness and a little financial support go a l o n g way

Slide 30

Yearn has discovered that even a few thousand dollars makes a difference

Slide 31

With a few thousand dollars, an entire orphanage in Russia new winter coats. warm bedding. decent medical supplies. better living circumstances. a reason to smile. opportunities to develop. a sense of importance. will have

Slide 33

“To love a person means to see him as God intended him to be.” Fyodor Dostoevsky
